Origin | Review

Title: Origin
Series: Lux #4
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Pages: 364 pages
Version: Paperback
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Rating: ★

Origin is the fourth book in the Lux series and starts where Opal left off. Katy has been captured and is now at a facility to train her to become a better hybrid. She gets to know more about Daedalus and she even discovers a new species: Origins. The Origins are the children of a Luxen and a hybrid, they are smarter and have other abilities.
Daemon is lost without Katy and he has to find a way to save her, but can he?

Origin was such an amazing book. Just like all the other books in the Lux series, I had to keep reading and I just couldn’t stop. I cannot get enough of Katy and Daemon!

Origin had so many plot twists that I didn’t see coming. I mean, a new species, Katy and Daemon getting secretly married, Dawson and Beth having a baby (so probably an Origin)?! Hello, can it get even better? Jennifer L. Armentrout is killing it with this series!

Just like every other book, I love how Katy and Daemon are together and I cannot get enough of them. They are just so cute and adorable and they are married now! I was so excited when I was reading it and I couldn’t stop smiling! They are definitely one of my favourite book couples!

Origin was an amazing sequel and I cannot wait to read the final book (besides the short stories and extra books) in the Lux series, Opposition! Luckily I don’t have to wait two years like it was the last time. I got Opposition for my birthday so keep an eye out for the review, which is coming very soon!

Opal | Review

Title: Opal
Series: Lux #3
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Pages: 382 pages
Version: Paperback
Publisher: Entangled Teen

Opal is the third book in the Lux series and continues the story of Katy and Daemon. Katy has been through a lot and in Opal not everything is getting better. Daemon’s twin brother Dawson is back and he’s trying to get his girlfriend Beth out of a dangerous facility and Blake is back as well. Blake wants to help Katy and her friends to get Beth back so he can get his Luxen, Chris, back. But can they trust Blake? And will they be able to save Beth?

Opal is yet another amazing sequel! I love Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing and I love the Lux world. I just love books about aliens and I also love Jennifer L. Armentrout so this is the perfect series for me.

Katy and Daemon are just perfect. I love Katy because she’s a book blogger and I just know that we could be best friends forever and maybe share Daemon? High hopes, I know! Daemon is just the perfect boyfriend, he’s sweet, he takes care of her and he’s a tad overprotective. And did I mention he’s an alien? Yeah, he’s an amazing and sexy alien as well!

And then let’s talk about Blake… I wasn’t sure whether or not to trust him because he did some bad stuff in the previous books and then all of a sudden he’s back? I thought it was pretty weird and then lying in Katy’s bed when she’s asleep was so creepy! And yet again, he did something terrible at the end…

Like I mentioned above, Opal is a perfect sequel and I cannot wait to read Origin and see whether Daemon can save Katy or not!

Broken Ties | Review

Title: Broken Ties
Series: The Mentalist Series #0.5
Author: Kenechi Udogu
Pages: 84 pages
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Rating: ★★★★

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Kenechi Udogu!

Broken Ties is a prequel in The Mentalist Series about Gemma’s father and mother, Paul and Nora. It’s the story of how they met and fell in love with each other.

Broken Ties was such a cute and lovable novella. I couldn’t stop reading it because it was so well written and I just had to know how Paul and Nora fell for each other. I think that I definitely would’ve read Paul and Nora’s love in a trilogy and then Gemma and Russ’ love in another trilogy!

Broken Ties was yet another amazing book in The Mentalist Series and I’m kinda sad that the series is over now. It was such a good series! I want to thank Kenechi again for giving me review copies because I’m so glad that I finally read the entire series!

ColourPop NKLA x Laura Lee Foursome | Tutorial

I recently got the ColourPop NKLA x Laura Lee Foursome as a birthday present and I immediately thought that it was perfect to do a make-up tutorial with all four eyeshadows. I really love the formulas of the eyeshadows, they are all so pigmented and so beautiful!
I decided to also use a ColourPop lipstick because why not use a ColourPop lipstick when you’re also using the eyeshadows, right?!

I also want to say that I love this collection, not only because it’s so beautiful but because the profits go to Best Friends Animal Society. I think it’s a beautiful initiative and that make-up brands should do it more often!

1. Prime your eyelids with a primer and a white eyeshadow.
2. Use the lightest matte shade in the crease.
3. Go over the lightest shade with a darker eyeshadow.
4. Use the dark shimmer shade all over the eyelid.
5. Use the two crease shades on your lower lash line.
6. Use the glitter shade as an inner corner highlight.
7. Apply mascara and some wispy lashes.
8. Apply a light-orange blush as well as some blinding highlight.
9. And the last step is lipstick!
I hope you guys like this tutorial and will recreate it! I loved playing around with the ColourPop eyeshadows and I cannot wait to buy more shades because they are so pigmented and beautiful!

Mistress of the Vampire | Review

Title: Mistress of the Vampire
Author: Elena Darkmoon
Pages: 259 pages
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Publisher: Redman Stone

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Elena Darkmoon!

Mistress of the Vampire tells the story of Lenna and Magnus. Lenna is not just your average university girl, she’s secretly a vampire hunter and she doesn’t know it yet. And it’s not that good that she’s falling for Magnus. Magnus is an extremely hot guy, but not just any guy: a vampire. They can’t stay away from each other even though that’s the exact thing that they should be doing, because they are a vampire hunter and a vampire.

Mistress of the Vampire was such an enjoyable and sexy vampire read! It was really fast paced and I couldn’t stop reading. I just had to know what would happen with Lenna and Magnum. They are both so interesting and I couldn’t help but want them to be together.

There’s a double perspective: Lenna and someone called Isaac. You get to know a lot about them and it was really interesting to read in Isaac’s perspective. You don’t really know the purpose of his perspective until a special revelation…

Mistress of the Vampire was a good vampire book and I would love to read a sequel!

So, from my parents I got some books and some cute Harry Potter related stuff. I got Opposition and Oblivion from Jennifer L. Armentrout and Champion: The Graphic Novel by Marie Lu. I really love the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I cannot wait to finish it! The same goes for the Champion graphic novel, I love the graphic novels from Marie Lu!

Keepers | Review

Title: Keepers
Series: The Mentalist Series #3
Author: Kenechi Udogu
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Rating: ★★★★

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Kenechi Udogu!

Keepers is the third and final book about Gemma and Russ. In Sentient, Gemma and Russ came across Anthony, a hybrid who wanted to recruit Gemma to fight the Keepers. Now in Keepers, they come across Anthony’s father, Eamon, who’s a Keeper and wants to find Anthony. Everything is so weird for Gemma, she doesn’t know who she should trust – Anthony or Eamon. Who should she trust in order to protect her family?

Keepers was such a good book to end The Mentalist Series. I loved that there was a double perspective: Gemma and Russ. You got to know what Russ was thinking and feeling too and it was just everything I needed. Gemma and Russ are so cute together, they know each other so well and they are just perfect for each other! When they do something, they always think of each other. They are the perfect couple!

Keepers was the perfect book to end a series. It was fast-paced, it had a double perspective and it was just so good! From Aversion to Keepers, there was a lot of character and plot development. Keepers was definitely an amazing book and I cannot wait to read the prequel novella, Broken Ties.

Top 5 ways of trying to be healthy in 2018

I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions, but I had the idea of becoming healthier because if I really think about all the things I do, I’m not always that healthy. I do eat a lot of healthy food and I go to the gym but there are more things that I can do to be healthier. I know I'm a bit late with this since it's already March, but hey, better late than never!

1. Stick to going twice a week to the gym
It may not sound much but it’s hard for me to stick to going twice a week to the gym. I don’t know why but I never want to go or I never find the energy to go. Most of the time I have to go to the gym on my own and it doesn’t really motivate me. I’m in a desperate need for a gym buddy!

But I want to keep going to the gym and therefore I’m going to make a monthly habit page in my Bullet Journal to keep track of me going to the gym. And at the end of the month, I can see how well or how bad I did that month.

2. Change from using sugar to sugar substitute
When I drink tea or eat yoghurt, I always put so much sugar in it and I’m trying not to. I know a little sugar here and there won’t kill you but I don’t want to eat too much sugar. For my tea I’m using sugar mixed with sugar substitute to make it a little healthier and for my yoghurt I just use a sugar substitute. I want to use these products because I drink tea almost every day and I eat yoghurt maybe twice a week or more. These small changes will help, in my opinion.

3. Drink tea instead of soda
When I was younger I rarely drank soda, but when I got older I drank more soda. It’s not that I drink a lot of soda, maybe once or twice a week but I never drink sodas without sugar so if you count all the sugar that I drink… Yeah, I don’t want to do that either. I’m planning on drinking more water and tea because it’s healthier and with less sugar.

I only drink soda when I’m at my family’s place or my boyfriend’s place. It’s not that I can really drink water or tea when the people I visit don’t have it (yes I mention water because I drink water from the tap and not every town has ‘delicious’ water), but luckily my boyfriend’s mother drinks tea so I can always drink tea there.

It may sound stupid that I want to change that habit because I don’t really drink a lot of soda, but again I think that these small changes will help.

4. Eat more healthily
I have always eaten my veggies and I always take 2 pieces of fruit to college, so it’s not that I am not healthy I just want to eat healthier food. I want to try and eat less sugar and eat food with more vitamins or more calcium, …

I have bought more kinds of fruit. I used to eat the regular stuff such as apples and pears, but since I started working at a vegetable and fruit store  (in 2014)  I discovered a lot more fruits that I enjoy eating. So now I eat mango, persimmon, prunes, berries, … It’s not that of a big deal, but it feels like being healthier.

And lately, I’m loving muesli with low-fat yoghurt and it’s actually healthy. There isn’t much fat in the yoghurt and the muesli contains dried berries and stevia, so no real sugar. I add a tiny bit of sugar substitute because the yoghurt is a bit bitter, but it’s still healthy. I started eating this yoghurt since January because my mum’s been eating it for such a long time I wanted to try it out as well. You can choose any kind of yoghurt, but the muesli that I love is the Delhaize Crunchy Muesli – Bosvruchten (EN: Forest Fruits) and the Delhaize Crunchy Muesli – Appel (EN: Apple). It’s only €2.29 and €2.09 for 300 gr so it’s not that expensive either. For all those Dutchies out there reading this blog post, click here to check out the Forest Fruits muesli and here to check out the Apple muesli.

5. Drink more water
Most of the time, I’m drinking either water or tea. At school, I always drink water but it feels like that I don’t drink enough water. So that’s another thing I want to work on in 2018. I want to be able to drink 1.5 l to 2 l a day. I always see Shannon (Shaaanxo) drinking from this big pink water bottle and she inspires me to drink more water, lol. That's, of course, not the only reason I want to drink more water. Drinking water has made my skin softer and it has a lot of other advantages. Water helps our brain function and gives us more energy. It can also reduce headaches and, of course, hangovers.

I’m sure that there are a lot more advantages, but I don’t want to sum up everything and make this blog post boring. I hope that you guys found this blog post interesting or helpful and let me know what healthy habits you have!

Colliding Skies | Review

Title: Colliding Skies
Author: Debbie Zaken
Pages: 350 pages
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Publisher: Oftomes Publishing
Release date: 6 March 2018

This book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Oftomes Publishing!

Colliding Skies tells the story of Skye and Ethan. Skye is just an ordinary girl in love with science and the stars and Ethan is an alien, not just any alien but a good-looking one. When they meet each other, it’s so hard for Skye to not think about Ethan and Ethan can’t stay away from Skye. But will their relationship work when everyone else in the world is not that happy about the aliens?

Colliding Skies is such an amazing alien book. I love reading about aliens and when I had the chance to read this book in advance, I immediately said yes. You cannot keep me away from a good alien book! Colliding Skies is Debbie Zaken’s debut novel and wow, it’s such a good book and amazingly written!

I love the relationship between Skye and Ethan. They both are struggling with their feelings, especially Ethan. It’s not normal for their race to feel emotions, so Ethan doesn’t really know what to do. I really like the characters and I just love Skye and Ethan! They are so cute and adorable! I also really like that the aliens have these beautiful eyes and special abilities!

Colliding Skies is such a fast-paced read and I need another book! The book ended with such a cliffhanger. So cruel of you, Debbie! So please, Debbie, if you’re reading this: I NEED ANOTHER BOOK! Thank you.

I highly recommend Colliding Skies when you’re up for an alien book that is so good and with lots of cliffhangers and an amazing storyline!

February wrap up

In February I read a total of 13 books, I watched 48 episodes (TV shows) and I watched 2 movies. Read further to know what I read and watched this month.

I also want to say that I used my February favourites pictures because I had barely time to take pictures due to college work. I’m so sorry!

As I mentioned in my January wrap up, I was trying to catch up on my huge ARC TBR pile. I started reading V Games: Fresh From The Grave by Caroline Peckham in January and I finished it this month, and wow what a book! Can’t wait to read the third and final book in The V Games Trilogy. Other ARCs that I read this month are: Aversion (The Mentalist Series #1) by Kenechi Udogu, Cedric the Demonic Knight (Cedric #1) by Valerie Willis, Sentient (The Mentalist Series #2) by Kenechi Udogu, Bloom (The Order Series #1) by Nikki Rae, The Price of Silver (Solis Invicti #2) by Josie Jaffrey, Colliding Skies by Debbie Zaken, Bound in Silver (Solis Invicti #3) by Josie Jaffrey and I started reading Keepers (The Mentalist Series #3) by Kenechi Udogu and The Silver Bullet (Solis Invicti #4) by Josie Jaffrey.

I also mentioned in my January wrap up that I started reading Opal, the third book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and right after I finished Opal, I started reading Origin because who can wait after that ending of Opal! And wow I just love Jennifer L. Armentrout and I need Opposition, the fifth book in the Lux series. My review of Opal and Origin will be up in March!

After Origin, I started in Champion, the third and final book in the Legend series and wow that ending! First I wasn’t really sure whether to give it 5 stars or not. I thought the ending kinda sucked until the last chapter, the last chapter was everything I could’ve wished for!

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda was the next book on my TBR list. I was planning on reading it this month or next month because I wanted to read it before the movie came out. And wow, I really liked it! It was such an interesting story and I couldn’t stop reading! After Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, I started reading Maybe Now (Maybe #2) by Colleen Hoover, which she is writing on Wattpad.

And the first TV show that I watched this month was Riverdale, unfortunately not so many episodes because they took another break. I also started watching a new series called Powerless and it’s such a cute, funny and amazing TV show with Vanessa Hudgens. I finished Powerless early February because it was only a 10-episodes-TV show. I also continued watching the first season of Gotham and I also started watching season 2. I continued watching the fourth season of DC Super Hero Girls, the third season of Sleepy Hollow and I started Atypical, an amazing TV show that I finished in one week. I also started watching A Series of Unfortunate Events and Dynasty, and I watched a random episode of Black Mirror.

And for movies, I watched Fifty Shades Freed and Death Note. I love love love Fifty Shades Freed and I’m kinda sad that the movies are over! The Fifty Shades movies are definitely some of my favourite movies! The last movie I watched this month was Death Note and it was such a good movie. I had no expectations because I’ve never seen the anime TV show, but I really liked the movie and I’m kinda thinking of starting the anime show, but I’m not sure whether to do it or not.

I hope you guys read some amazing books or/and watched amazing TV shows or/and movies!

Bloom | Review

Title: Bloom
Series: The Order Series
Author: Nikki Rae
Pages: 292 pages
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Release date: 28 February 2018
Rating: ★★★★★

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Nikki Rae!

Fawn was given to The Grim Order when she was a child but she was never really bought because the first Master she had, couldn’t keep her. He treated her like a dog and she disgraced him. Now that she’s 19, she’s finally bought by Master Lyon (Elliot) and he’s everything she didn’t expect him to be. But can Fawn trust him?

First of all, I want to apologise for my review because I’m not sure if I’m going to make any sense at all. Bloom is such an intriguing and interesting book and I couldn’t put it down. After every chapter, I had to continue because I had to know what happened.

Bloom is such a good book and I really like the characters. Fawn and Elliot (Master Lyon) are such complicated persons and they never really show who they really are until the end of the book. Fawn is such a strong character and I love that she was so determined to escape. Elliot (or Master Lyon) seemed like a good master, not too harsh or mean and he was even kind and smart, but when I read the ending of Bloom, I was blown away! I just couldn’t believe his true intentions.

Bloom was such a fast-paced read and that plot twist at the end of the book… I’m not going to say too much because otherwise, I’m going to spoil everything, but omg… I didn’t see it coming. I DID NOT! Bloom is just another amazing book written by Nikki Rae and I cannot wait to read the sequel!

This Heart of Mine | Review

Title: This Heart of Mine
Author: C.C. Hunter
Pages: 384 pages
Version: Ebook (ARC)
Publisher: Wednesday Books
Release date: 27 February 2018
Rating: ★

This book was provided by the Publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Wednesday Books!

This Heart of Mine tells the story of Leah and Matt. Leah doesn’t have a working heart and Matt’s brother just died – suicide they say. The weirdest thing ever is that Leah gets Matt’s brother's heart and since then she starts to have dreams about a guy running in the woods.
Matt doesn’t believe his brother killed himself, so he and Leah are trying to find out who killed his brother and during their time together, they start to fall for each other.
But will they discover who killed his brother? And is Leah’s body going to reject her new heart?

This Heart of Mine is such a beautiful yet sad book. There were some moments that I was crying and sad, but there were also moments that I couldn’t stop smiling. This Heart of Mine is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I couldn’t stop reading and I was non-stop thinking about the end. I was hoping for a happy end, but I wasn’t sure if I was going to get one. I love the main characters, Leah and Matt. They’re both so funny and has dealt with a lot of stuff. They also grew towards the end of the book, they weren’t as sad as in the beginning and they’re madly in love with each other.

This Heart of Mine is the perfect read for people who love to read YA and contemporary with a sad twist. I cannot wait to discover more amazing books written by C.C. Hunter!
