Mental health update #3

*Trigger warning: descriptions of or extensive discussion on self-harming behaviour*

It’s been awhile since I made another mental health update. I used to see my therapist every two weeks, but now I see her once a month because she told me I was getting better and that I could handle my anxiety and depression better than in the beginning. I went to see her two weeks ago so that’s why I wanted to give you guys another update.

In the beginning, since my update, I’ve been feeling really good. I keep track of my mood and habits in my bullet journal and almost every day I was happy, except a few moments. I didn’t really have any shitty day and now I’ve been getting these shitty days again. I don’t really know why I’m feeling like this again. Is it stress and college? Is it my boyfriend? I don’t know. I think it’s a mix of everything.

I’ve been feeling really stressy lately because exams are approaching, all my teachers are giving me tasks even though I could use my time to study, and even my internship gave me some stress. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my internship, but I always wanted to do everything perfectly because I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I always wanted to look like a good person without anxiety or depression. I wanted to be my better self and it could give me some stress because I always wanted to be perfect and I kept on this mask of being perfect for 2 weeks. It may sound stupid because it’s just an internship, but I always want people to think that I’m a good person without any problems (even though I have a lot of them). Same with college, I don’t want people to see me as someone who is fighting battles every day. I want them to see that I’m happy and in love, even though I can be depressed and barely want to get out of the house.

Same goes for my boyfriend. I barely see him once a week and I don’t want to ruin my time with him by talking about my problems and by crying non-stop. And it’s kind of a bad thing to do. Not talking about my problems isn’t getting me anywhere and my boyfriend is going to think that everything’s fine even though it’s not. He knows about my anxiety and depression, and he tries to understand everything but he doesn’t know everything yet. I don’t want to overwhelm him with all my feelings, and I don’t want him to feel like his love isn’t enough for me. I love him to the moon and back, but even the happiest people can feel depressed.

Besides stress and my boyfriend, I’ve been struggling with my self-harm again. I know, I’m so stupid, but sometimes it feels like the only solution. Sometimes it’s just easier to give in than to fight it, but I’ll keep on trying to fight it.

I’ve also been feeling like I don’t want to see my therapist any more even though I really like talking to her. Sometimes I just don’t know what to say to her or I don’t know what she can do to make me feel better. But when I did visit her two weeks ago, I was glad I did. I really needed to talk to her. While I was talking to her, I was non-stop crying. Everything is sometimes just too much for me, and I had to get everything out. And she told me that it was okay to feel like this and that it was okay to cry like this. She even told me that she thinks I am really strong because I could’ve gone to a mental hospital or I could’ve committed suicide, but I did not. I’m still fighting this depression and I’m still trying to think positively, and that makes me a strong person. When she told me all these things, I felt so much better. I’m really grateful to have such a good therapist!

It doesn’t matter that you need to cry or that you don’t cry at all. It doesn’t matter that you go to a therapist or not. But don’t be afraid to talk about it! We can fight this together!

Top 5 favourite make-up products

I’ve been using these make-up products in my everyday make-up routine so I decided to make a blog post about them. The following products are my favourite products and I highly recommend them!

Top 5 favourite make-up products

1. Nyx HD Photogenetic Concealer Wand in 00 Alabaster
Yes I know, I use the lightest shade in the range because I’m a pale ass b*tch. I love this concealer because it has such an amazing coverage and it’s perfect for my skin. The shade range contains 23 shades, including a green, yellow and purple concealer. I love wearing this concealer without a foundation because it has a beautiful coverage and just doesn’t really need a foundation.

2. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Times Square
I really love the formula and colour of the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Times Square. This lipstick dries down completely and doesn’t transfer. The shade, Times Square, is really pretty because it’s a muted pink/beige colour. This is one of my favourite lipsticks because it stays put for such a long time!

3. Catrice Glam & Doll False Lashes Mascara Waterproof
I’ve been trying a lot of waterproof mascaras for the last couple of years and this one is definitely one of my favourite mascaras that I’ve ever used. It gives me so much length and volume, and it gives me even more length and volume when I use Catrice Glam & Doll Volumizing Mascara Primer!

Top 5 favourite make-up products

4. Sleek Highlighter Palette in Solstice

I bought the Sleek Highlighter Palette in Solstice a few years ago and since then I couldn’t not use it. I’ve been in love with this palette for such a long time because it’s just so blinding and beautiful. On ‘normal’ days, I use the light-golden and bronze shade and on ‘grungier’ days I use the purple. The pigmentation of this palette is 100% and it’s just so beautiful! And yes, as you can see I use the light-golden shade a lot and I even broke my palette, oops!

5. Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Pasadena

I know I should apologise because this is yet another lipstick, but I just had to put this amazing lipstick in this top 5. The formula of this lipstick is really smooth and the colour is just the perfect pink nude. It’s almost my own lip colour but just a tad more pink and that’s what I really love about this lipstick. This lipstick has a matt finish but it doesn’t really dry down completely.

Let me know what your favourite products are and if you’ve tried any of these products!

The Day Is Ready for You is a prose and poetry collection about life, heartbreak and breathing freely.

I liked The Day Is Ready for You because some of the poems and prose were really beautiful. It’s not my favourite poetry and prose collection because I couldn’t connect to all the poems. I really liked that there were romantic poems and feminist poems, those were definitely the best poems in this collection.

Until You Say I Do is the third and final book in the Until You series. Samantha and Joseph have decided to marry each other but it’s not as easy as they hoped it would be…
Until You Say I Do was again the perfect sequel to the series and was such an amazing book. I couldn’t stop reading this book, just like I had with Until You Set Me Free and Until You Are Mine.
Until You Say I Do was just the book I needed to end this series. It wasn’t only steamy but also so hard to put down because a lot of things were happening. I was so curious to know who did what and why, but I had always fate in Samantha and Joseph! They are definitely the perfect book couple!
I’m glad that I stumbled upon this series because I loved it and I devoured it. The Until You series is definitely one of the best New Adult/Romance series I’ve read so far, and I’m so happy that D.M. Davis is writing a book about two other characters from the Until You series!

Until You Are Mine is the second book in the Until You series and continues the story of Samantha and Joseph. Samantha is still struggling with the reality that Joseph loves her. She thinks that it’s not true and that he’ll find someone better than her.

Until You Are Mine was such an amazing sequel. I finished this beauty in one day and the day after I started reading the third book, Until You Say I Do. Until You Are Mine is such a fast-paced read and I really wanted to know how the story was going to end.

Samantha and Joseph are both amazing characters. Like I mentioned in my review of Until You Set Me Free, I really love the double POV. You get to know the characters better, and you get to know their true feelings. You just know what Joseph really feels for Samantha and throughout the book, I wished I could send a message to Samantha so that she could stop doubting Joseph’s feelings.

Until You Are Mine was again the perfect book for my shitty mood and I highly recommend the Until You series. Both books have been so amazing because they are both fast paced and the story in general is really interesting!

Until You Set Me Free is the first book in the Until You series and tells the story of Samantha and Joseph. Samantha is really focused on her studies so she can finally work at the company she’s always dreamt of. She’s even that focused that she doesn’t really notice how beautiful and sexy she is until she meets Joseph. Joseph is her brother’s roommate and he’s going to work for his family business after he graduates. Joseph’s family business is also the company that Samantha wants to work for. They meet and they immediately feel attracted to each other, but will they pursue the romance or will they stay determined to get the jobs they’ve always dreamt of?

Until You Set Me Free is a New Adult and Romance novel and that was exactly what I needed. It’s been awhile since I read a good NA/Romance read and I was feeling a bit like shit and this book really helped. It just felt so good to read it and take my mind of all the stuff I was worrying about.

Until You Set Me Free is such a fast-paced read! I started reading around 10 PM and I finished it the day after. I only stopped reading because I was getting a headache due to lack of sleep. I didn’t want to stop but it was hard to continue reading while my head was hurting. The story was so interesting and good and I wanted to read more about Samantha and Joseph and I wanted to know how the story was going to end.

I really like that there’s this double POV because you get to know Samantha’s and Joseph’s feelings. I think that a double POV always gives the story something extra and it even makes the story better. And it was definitely well written and interesting. You got to know more about the characters and how they were really feeling and that makes the book even more perfect.

I highly recommend Until You Set Me Free and I need book 2, Until You Are Mine!

Top 5 favourite music bands

I don’t normally make these kinds of posts that are not really related to make-up, books, … But I still wanted to make this blog posts so that you guys could get to know me a little better. Not all of you know that I love listening to metalcore and hardcore music and that’s why I made this post.

1. Architects
I’ve been a fan of Architects for such a long time and I listened to every album a million times. Architects is such a good band, not only for their music but also for what they stand for. One time at a festival, there was this guy touching a girl and the lead singer, Sam Carter, saw that and he made a statement during the performance that it’s not okay. Also, when I saw them live last year, Sam said some beautiful things about Tom, who passed away because of cancer. I think it’s so beautiful that Sam and the rest of the band still think about Tom!

My favourite album: Lost Forever//Lost Together
My favourite song: Heartburn (The Here and Now)
Number of times I’ve seen them live: 2

2. Being As An Ocean
Being As An Ocean is such a special band, in my opinion, because all 3 albums they’ve made are all so different from each other. They keep experimenting with their music and I love that about them. I’ve been a fan of them since the beginning, and I can’t get enough of them. To be honest, I don’t really like all the songs of their latest album, Waiting For The Morning To Come, but there are some good songs on that album!

My favourite album: Dear G-D
My favourite song: Ain't Nobody Perfect (Being As An Ocean)
Number of times I’ve seen them live: 2

3. Northlane
A lot of people love the old vocalist a lot of people love the new vocalist, well I like both of them. I get that change is hard, but both vocalists are amazing and I love all of their songs. They are really good at performing live and sometimes a little creepy because Jon Deiley, the guitarist, wears black contacts during their show.

My favourite album: Node
My favourite song: Equinox (ft. In Hearts Wake)
Number of times I’ve seen them live: 2

4. Stick To Your Guns
Stick To Your Guns is a metalcore band that’s been one of my favourite bands for such a long time. They are so good and I love them when they are playing live because then the crowd goes crazy! I love their songs and the meaning behind them, they are so beautiful. And that’s also one of the misconceptions about metalccore and hardcore. So many people think that they are just screaming without meaning, but if you look closer to the text, you will be in tears!

My favourite album: Disobedient
My favourite song: Left You Behind (Disobedient)
Number of times I’ve seen them live: 2

5. The Ghost Inside
The Ghost Inside is such a good band and I’m kind of sad that they still haven’t made some new music. I love listening to their music and I just wish that there’s going to be a new song or album. I do get that they are taking a break, that’s normal, but a girl can hope, okay?

My favourite album: Get What You Give
My favourite song: This Is What I Know About Sacrifice (Get What You Give)
Number of times I’ve seen them live: 3

The Unsound Theory tells the story of Yalena who receives a STAR Academy invitation even though she’s not that star-crazed. When she accepts the invitation, a whole new world opens up for her. While studying, she discovers so many new things, not only about space but also about herself…

The Unsound Theory was such a good book! I’ve always been fascinated by space, so this was definitely the perfect book for me. It was such an interesting story, and I really liked the characters. Yalena is definitely one of my favourite characters because she’s so intriguing!

From the first chapters, I was immediately hooked! I couldn’t stop reading because it was that interesting. When Yalena and the rest of her friends discovered certain things, I was so excited because I wanted to know more about them!

I still have so many questions so cannot wait to read the sequel, The Truth Hunters!

How to travel with your make-up

When you are a real beauty guru, you know that you need to pack the essentials when you travel to somewhere, even if it’s just your grandparents’ place or your boyfriend’s/girlfriend’s place.

First things first is a make-up bag. I used to use a boring black make-up bag, but this cute flamingo bag is way cuter, right? I really like the material because it's so soft but also really strong. If you would like to know where I bought it, make sure to click here. You have this cute make-up bag in different kinds of patterns or pictures such as pineapples, a unicorn, grumpy cat, …

One of the other important things is a good make-up brush set. I mean, you cannot put on your foundation or make your highlight pop without a brush, right? This beautiful brush set contains some beautiful eyeshadow brushes as well as some face brushes: a blush brush, a contour brush, a powder brush, a foundation brush, an eyeshadow brush, a concealer brush and an eyeliner brush. I really love these brushes because they are really soft and I love the way they look. If you would like to check out these beautiful brushes, click here.

Besides the important make-up products such as concealer, highlighter, mascara, … You also need your favourite eyeshadows. The last item I would like to conclude in this blog post is a travel-size magnetic make-up palette. It’s much easier to fill an empty make-up palette with your favourite eyeshadows than carry an entire palette without even using all the eyeshadows. As you can see in the picture, I love using a grey, a brown and some colourful eyeshadows and I also have my contour/bronzer in this cute palette. It’s a really handy palette because it’s small so not too big for the make-up bag. You can find this palette here.

Make sure to check out these products because they’re so affordable and so cute! All these products were sent by Tosave, but keep in mind that my opinions are my own and I do not receive money for my views.

Love Beyond Opposites is the third book in the Grad Night series and tells the story of Jade and Lennon. They both met each other 4 years ago and since that day they were into each other. Jade always thought she wasn’t Lennon’s type because she was a mathlete and Lennon could never show his feelings because his dad told him not to hurt her. Will they tell each other how they really feel on their graduation night?

Love Beyond Opposites was such an enjoyable read! I couldn’t get enough of Jade and Lennon because they are obviously opposites but they have so many things in common. They are so cute together and I kept on reading because I wanted to know how their story was going to end.

I started reading two chapters on Wednesday and I read all the rest of the book on Thursday. I just had to know if they were going to be together or not. Love Beyond Opposites was so addictive and cute!

Love Beyond Opposites is the perfect contemporary read and I highly recommend it to everyone! I cannot wait to read the other two books in the series, Love in the Friend Zone and Love Between Enemies! I really like that all the characters are in all the books!

Review

Opposition is the fifth and final book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and continues the story of Kat and Daemon. All the Luxen invaded earth and Kat couldn’t understand that Daemon was siding with them. How could he turn his back on her? But Daemon will do anything to save the lives of those he loves, even betrayal or teaming up with a race that is created to kill his kind. Will they make it out alive?

Opposition was yet another amazingly well-written book by Jennifer L. Armentrout. We all know by now that I can’t say anything bad about Jennifer because she is just that good. She is such an amazing author and can write anything from romance to aliens to gargoyles.

I am still madly in love with Kat and Daemon. If you compare Kat from Obsidian (book 1) until now, you can definitely tell that she’s grown to a strong woman and that Daemon has started to show his vulnerable side and I couldn’t be happier. Kat and Daemon are definitely one of my favourite book couples and I wouldn’t mind reading another series about them!

I cannot wait to read Shadows, Oblivion, Obsession and The Darkest Star! I love that are still so many more books about the Luxen and that Jennifer L. Armentrout is writing a spin-off about Luc!

My internship | College update

In my second year of college, we have to do a two-week internship and I did mine in a research and technology organisation that works for the government as well as for numerous companies. The organisation does research in sustainable development, clean tech, … In this blog post I wanted to talk a bit about my internship but I didn’t want to mention the organisation’s name, not because my internship didn’t go well (because it did), but just because I thought it was a bit more professional.

I chose this organisation because I love ‘working’ for an organisation that’s trying to save our planet and is looking for better alternatives. It just gives me a good feeling that I know that I’m working for someone that is trying to do something good for all of us.

The first day at my internship was such a good day. I was really nervous because I didn’t know what to expect and I was afraid that everyone was going to be so different because it’s such a big company, but everyone was so nice and funny. I expected a really formal communication, but everyone was so informal and it made my first day so easy! I still had some trouble asking some stuff because I got a little anxious, but besides that, my first day was amazing!

At my internship I had numerous tasks such as translating documents, writing social media posts and internal and external communication posts. I had to check the new website for errors and had to make the photo databank better. I was even allowed to post some things on the current and new website! Those tasks kept me busy those two weeks of my internship.

The day before the last day two people of the communication team and I sat together to discuss my internship on how it went and they also had to give me some ratings together with explanations. I received such an amazing feedback and I was so happy to hear that everything I did was amazing and they thought I am one of the best interns yet! The team manager even asked if I was interested in a vacation job (if there was work). I couldn’t be happier after receiving such a good feedback!

Overall, I really liked my internship and I don’t know, maybe one day I will work for this organisation! I’m kinda sad that it’s over now and I wish that my internship was longer than just two weeks. I really liked the people I’ve worked with and I think I’m going to miss them.

April wrap up

In April I read a total of 13 books, I watched 100 episodes (TV shows) and I watched 4 movies. Read further to know what I read and watched this month.

I’m still trying to finish my ARC TBR pile but I think I won’t finish it for a long time since I’m constantly requesting or accepting books. The first book I finished in April was Mist & Whispers (The Weaver’s Riddle #1) by C.M. Lucas. After Mist & Whispers, I read Independence Realm by Kenny J. Bernadt, the witch doesn’t burn in this one (women are some kind of magic #2) Amanda Lovelace, The Rules of Rebellion by Amity Hope and Catching Stars by Cayla Keenan.

The first ‘normal’ book I finished this month was, Stone Cold Touch (The Dark Elements #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout and then I started reading the third book in this series, Every Last Breath. Both books were so beautiful and I’m sad that the series is over now. I also read love, and you by Gretchen Gomez, which is a poetry collection and you guys know that I fell in love with poetry this summer so I couldn’t not read this book! It was such a beautiful poetry collection so make sure to check it out! I also read another poetry book called milk and honey by Rupi Kaur, which is another amazing and beautiful poetry book. After milk and honey, I read Breakup Anniversary by Dawn Lanuza, Opposition (Lux #5) and The Wedding (Lux #5.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and I started reading Shadows (Lux #0.5).

For TV shows I continued watching Black Mirror, Chigaco PD, Chicago Fire, Shadowhunters, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Once Upon A Time, Life Sentence and Dynasty. And I was so happy that I got the notification that the new episode of Famous In Love was live, I watched it last year and it was such a good TV show so hearing that the new episodes were live, I couldn’t not watch it! I also started a new TV show, Skins. It’s not really a new TV show, but it’s a new TV show for me. I’ve been wanting to watch this show for such a long time, and now I finally did it. It’s a good TV show and kinda weird but in a good way. I also started Dark, it’s an interesting TV show with a cool concept. I also started watching The Good Doctor, Constantine and Siren.

I started watching Natural Selection and Unfriended, but the beginning of both movies was so boring that I stopped watching. After Natural Selection, I watched Be Somebody, The Danish Girl, Get Out and Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge. I really liked The Danish Girl because Eddie Redmayne did a fantastic job playing Lili and just the whole concept is so beautiful but also so sad.
